RATING SYSTEM

Here’s a handy dandy explanation of my ratings from 1 to 10!

10/Masterpiece: The greatest stories I’ve ever seen. Probably not perfect but comprehensively unforgettable either way, with never before seen tales told with truly unique voices. Attack on Titan as the greatest story in fiction defines this well.

9/Great: The cream of the crop, the exuberant stories that make you love the medium all over again. Generally inspired in both plot and presentation but maybe missing that final emotional hook to be any higher. Made in Abyss stands in this layer.

8/Very Good: The excellent series that execute on their ideas in robust fashion, maybe not too showy about it but effective overall. A set of small flaws or a big glaring one hold them back a touch. This be Jujutsu Kaisen’s domain.

7/Good: The average score for me, most things I choose to watch end up good. Either a wonderful idea executed with little fanfare or a nothing story done with all the flair, the average is a respectable slice of entertainment. Bleach is the definition of good but nothing more.

6/Fine: The disappointment rating, most of these series leave you feeling that way. Inoffensive but blandly enjoyable or inspired but offensively executed, I feel like I like these series but I’m never sure. Tonikawa is the definition of bland fun.

5/Mediocre: The one’s that shall be forgotten and never forgiven, honestly my most despised rating. Digestible is generally the word but a lack of ambition in the story and presentation part sink these stories. Could be called mid even. Dragon Ball Z in its uber dated anime form unfortunately sits here.

4/Bad: Ah yes, the not good rating. Could just be a bad original idea, a sloppily executed one, a poor adaptation, a whole plethora of things coming together to sink a ship. But we’re not miserable enough yet so bad it is and nothing worse. The unwanted spinoffs of Madoka Magica and Psycho Pass live here.

3/Very Bad: Truly miserable tales that I only finished through sheer stubbornness, feeling my youth waste away in every second. By this point everything is either boring as hell or beyond stupid. Tokyo Ghoul:re in both if it’s forms lives here… for now?

2/Atrocious: The most in your face aggressively terrible tales ever, their only engagement coming from their impressive and comprehensive incompetence. I’d say they make me mad, just a tough. ufotables offensive adaptation of Junji Ito’s Gyo crawls around here.

1/Hated: A score I have never used actually, is it possible for me to actively hate every moment of something without a shred of positive engagement? I don’t know but because this is a 1-10 rating system I have to have it, let us pray it never gets used. Fandoms of most kind could be given this score, I don’t respect the aggressive and uncritical fanboyism of them.

Because I’m a fraud though I do .5 decimals too just because it gives a better distinction on ratings. Expect 9.5’s to show themselves frequently, I have alot of those.

WHO AM I

Hello and welcome, my name is Connor and I am a decidedly average person with decidedly average skills. I have been raised in the frozen tundra of Southern Ontario, Canada for 19 years now which has given me my sharp wit(self ascribed[ at the cost of my marbles. I’m better known as @nerdy_animanga online and I’ve spent over 2 years gushing about the thing I love the most, manga(and anime) and this website is the next step. I hope to continue to put too much time and effort into this secondary hobby of writing about my main hobby, and I hope you guys have fun too. Do not expect professional quality writing and media analysis though, my brain ain’t capable of that much:)
